Colette is one of the greatest French writers. One of those who brought the French language to a point of perfection rarely equalled. She was also one of the freest women of her time, a source of inspiration for generations of readers, a pioneer and an example in the emancipation and liberation of women in the 20th century.
It was in the house where she was born in Saint-Sauveur-en-Puisaye, within its walls and gardens, that Gabrielle Colette acquired from her mother, Sido, her knowledge of plants and animals, her acute attention to everything that wants to live, her love of freedom and the art of perceiving the world through all the senses, which would become the hallmarks of a unique style in the history of literature.
More than just a writer's house, Colette's birthplace is the threshold of her literary creation.
